What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine technique, involves the insertion of thin needles into specific body points to stimulate natural healing and enhance overall well-being.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is generally safe when administered by a qualified and licensed acupuncturist. The use of sterile, disposable needles minimizes the risk of infection.

What conditions can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture effectively treats various conditions, including chronic pain (back pain, migraines), stress, anxiety, insomnia, and digestive issues. It can also complement conventional medical treatments.

How do I know if acupuncture is right for me?

If you’re considering acupuncture, consult a qualified acupuncturist to discuss your health concerns, treatment options, and any questions you may have.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is typically painless, with most people experiencing only a slight sensation upon needle insertion. Many find the treatments relaxing and comfortable.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies based on the condition and individual response. Some experience relief after a few sessions, while others may require ongoing treatment. Your practitioner will discuss a treatment plan with you during your first visit.

How should I prepare for a session?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid heavy meals or alcohol before your session. Be ready to discuss your medical history and current symptoms with the acupuncturist.

What should I do after a session?

Drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity, and rest after your session. Your acupuncturist may provide additional post-treatment instructions.

Are there any side effects?

Mostly the side effects of Acupuncture are positive ones, on rare occasions and usually mild, including slight bruising or soreness at the needle site.

How soon will I feel results?

Many experience immediate relief, while others notice gradual changes over time. Effectiveness varies based on the individual and condition.

What should I expect during a session?

You will have a conversation with your acupuncturist and discuss what you are needing. You’ll then typically lie comfortably on a table while the acupuncturist takes your pulses, sometimes looks at your tongue and then inserts needles into specific points. The needles may be gently stimulated and left in place for about 20 to 30 minutes before removal.

Are there lifestyle changes I can make to enhance the benefits?

Your acupuncturist may recommend stress reduction techniques, dietary adjustments, and exercises to complement acupuncture’s benefits.

How often should I schedule sessions?

Frequency depends on your condition and its severity. Initially, weekly sessions may be recommended, with adjustments based on your progress. You will discuss with your therapist a treatment plan for your individual needs.

Are there conditions acupuncture may not be suitable for?

While generally safe, there are conditions requiring precautions or where acupuncture should be avoided. Your acupuncturist will assess your medical history and discuss any contraindications.
